Eurovision Song Contest Spain 1969

After Massiel won the Eurovision Song Contest 1968 with La, La, La…, the 1969 contest was held in Madrid, Spain, the only time the contest has been held in Spain. The final was held on 29 March in the Teatro Real, an opera house that opened in 1850, the host broadcaster was Televisión Española and the presenter was Laurita Valenzuela. The artist Salvador Dalí designed the poster. 16 countries took part; Austria was the only country of the 17 in 1968 that did not return.

When the voting ended, four songs had the same number of points, 18, so all four were declared joint winners: Salomé for Spain with Vivo cantando, Lulu for the United Kingdom with Boom Bang-a-Bang, Lenny Kuhr for the Netherlands with De troubadour and Frida Boccara for France with Un jour, un enfant. It remains the only contest with more than one winner. The 1970 contest was held in Amsterdam, after a draw between the French and Dutch broadcasters.
