Eurovision Song Contest The Netherlands 1970

The Eurovision Song Contest 1969 ended in a four-way tie, and the EBU had to choose one host. Spain and the United Kingdom had already hosted the two previous contests, so a draw between the French and Dutch broadcasters chose NOS. The 1970 contest was held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the second time the Netherlands hosted the contest, after Hilversum in 1958. The final was held on 21 March in the RAI International Congress Centre and the presenter was Willy Dobbe. Only 12 countries took part, the fewest since 1959: Finland, Norway, Portugal and Sweden boycotted the contest, officially because they felt that the contest marginalised smaller countries.

Dana from Ireland won with All Kinds of Everything and 32 points, 6 points ahead of the United Kingdom’s Knock, Knock (Who’s There?) by Mary Hopkin. Germany’s Wunder gibt es immer wieder by Katja Ebstein was third. It was Ireland’s first victory.
