Eurovision Song Contest Belgium 1987
After Sandra Kim won the Eurovision Song Contest 1986 with J’aime la vie, the 1987 contest was held in Brussels, Belgium. It was the first time Belgium hosted the contest. The final was held on 9 May in the Centenary Palace of the Brussels Exhibition Centre, the host broadcaster was RTBF and the presenter was Viktor Lazlo. 22 countries took part, a new record, as Greece and Italy returned after a year away.
Johnny Logan from Ireland won with Hold Me Now and 172 points, 31 points ahead of Germany’s Lass die Sonne in dein Herz by Wind. Italy’s Gente di mare was third. Logan had also won in 1980, which made him the first performer to win the contest twice. It was the third victory for Ireland, after 1970 and 1980.
