Eurovision Song Contest Italy 2022

After Måneskin won the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in the Netherlands with Zitti E Buoni, the 2022 contest was held in Turin, Italy. It was the third time Italy hosted the contest. The EBU decided on 25 February 2022 that no Russian act would take part because of the invasion of Ukraine, and 40 countries competed. The first semi-final was held on 10 May, the second on 12 May and the Grand Final on 14 May. Kalush Orchestra from Ukraine won with Stefania and 631 points, 165 points ahead of the United Kingdom. It was the third victory for Ukraine.

The song won the televote with 439 points out of a possible 468 (93.8%), the most televote points in the history of the contest at the time, and received 12 points from the televoters of 28 countries. The juries placed it fourth with 192 points.

After the second semi-final the EBU found irregular voting patterns in the jury votes of six countries: Azerbaijan, Georgia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania and San Marino. These six countries were given substitute jury results for the second semi-final and the Grand Final, calculated from countries with similar voting patterns, as determined by the pots that the countries were put into for the semi-final allocation draw. The Flemish broadcaster VRT reported later that the juries concerned had agreed to vote for each other. The EBU set up a working group on the irregularities, and from 2023 the semi-finals were decided by televote alone.
